Do they still dress up like that now-a-days?
Thanks for dropping by.
Living in Virginia, we see quite a few "old order Amish." The old orders are the ones that still dress that way~although it's not as common as it used to be.
Great picture. Thanks for visiting.
Great picture! I love learning more about the Amish. My WW is up, stop on by.
Happy Wednesday!
Great photo..the Amish are very neat people...I love how they can live without so much, yet have so much.
happy Wed.
Wow, I didn't think they still dressed that way. Thought they would be a little bit modern. Thanks for sharing.
Thank for stopping by.
yes they still dress like that- from what i have seen anyways... i often see them when i visit my relatives in pa...coincidentally in Lancaster county, the same area where the shootings occurred.
happy WW!
We live in this area, and I've been very bothered about the news, too.
VERY cool picture that you've posted! Yes, they do still dress like that here. ;)
I've posted my Wordless Wednesday, too. Enjoy!
Every Amish person that I have ever come into contact with has always offered a smile. So, this pic is rather poignant given the recent events.
I've always seen the amish dressed in black, but Stacey is right, given the recent events it is a very poignant pic....
I really like the photo and spent ages looking for it. I wanted one just like this to mark the recent events.
It makes me so sad that people can't send their children to school anymore knowing that at the end of the day they will be coming home.
I just finished reading Beverly's Lewis's The Brethren, the last in a series about the Amish. I enjoy reading about them.
Very nice shot.Nice post.
Happy WW!
I think the Amish are so interesting. I learned a bit about them in college. I think it would be interesting to try living like them for a week, I wonder how many of us spoiled people would survive.
Very sad what happened in their quiet neighborhood. Great pic.
This is a good Hommage to the sect.
I have been to Lancaster PA. One of the companies I worked for (driving a truck), had me pick up skids from an Amish farm there. Hand-made in the old Amish (no power tools tradition)
They asked me to respect the group. So when I arrived I wore a long cotton dress with a high collar and had my hair covered in a country kircheif. The only thing not complying with the sect was I had steel toed boots peeking out from under my dress. I would speak business with the owner then I would go around to the front of the building and sit on a bench to be as non obtrusive as I could be.
The women used to come and share biscuits and preserves with me. We would chat about the bible or do a crafts together for the 2hrs it took to ready the truck.
I would never offer my hand to the men in thanks. I would bow and thank them very much for the great work. I would climb in my truck, and wave good bye to the women as I left.
I was asked to come back over and over because I did my best to respect the sect.
It is one of the things about trucking I miss the most. The lovely friends I got to see every week or two.
I never realized that they wear such bright colors. I think I have seen to many movies! Thanks for sharing!
Some day I'd like to visit Amish country. I've read some fantastic novels about their traditions and values and would love to settle in for a while in the slower pace of their lives.
My WW is up!
lovely blog!
Here the hutterites (similar to amish) dress very much like that.. nothing modern.
A people I've always found very interesting.
Thank you for coming to visit my blog. The WW I had was of the deaf color guard for the deaf school that I worked at a few years ago. They are pretty serious
I love the Amish!
